Chidren’s involvement in Sunday services

In the past our children have attended the first part of Sunday services on all but one Sunday each month. On that Sunday the DRE would lead children’s chapel at the outset of their morning program. Since we are functioning with an interim RE administrator this year, there is no children’s chapel, and the children attend, at least, the beginning of Sunday services every week.

In recent years we have usually had a story for all ages. This year we are trying something different in that one child brings home a wooden box. On a following Sunday the child brings it back containing an object from home that’s important to her or him. It’s given to the minister and music director when the children come forward for the story. The child explains its significance, then the minister and music director create a story involving the object that speaks to an aspect of that Sunday’s theme.

We have five regular intergenerational services through the church year: September’s water ceremony; October’s Day of the Dead service; December’s Yule Play; February’s Valentine’s Day service and June’s Coming of Age service.
